SHERMAN, Texas – An event win, two national standards and several season-best times highlighted the St. Gregory's swim teams' trip to the Austin College Invitational and Relays this weekend. Both the women and men finished fourth overall.

Freshman Garrett Thompson won the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.81 – good for 20 team points. Jason Schroeder was fourth in the event.

The 200 medley relay team of Michael Heon, Mark Roselius, Timothy Hyland and Keyton Marzolf tied for third at 1:42.16 – nearly eight seconds better than the national standard.

Heon was solid in the 50 and 100 freestyle races with times of 24.15 and 53.92, respectively. Both were season-best times. Joseph Brasher turned a season-best time of 58.99 in the 100 backstroke. That was good enough for fourth overall.

Marzolf enjoyed his best finish of the season – a second-place time of 15:16.14 in the 1,000 freestyle.

On the women's side, Erica Heon produced 13 team points with a sixth-place finish in the 50 freestyle. She came in with a time of 27.78.

Kaitlin Hampton finished fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:24.37 – good for 14 team points. Hampton was fourth in the 100 freestyle at 1:02.17. Ashley Haan was ninth in the event.

Friday night's relays were highlighted by a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle. The team of Roselius, Thompson, Brasher and Schroeder turned in a time of 1:33.19 – good enough for second place overall and a national qualifying standard.

Schroeder, Hyland and Heon were also second in the 3x100 butterfly with a time of 2:56.02. The Cavs finished third as a team in relay competition.

St. Gregory's resumes competition January 27 in a dual meet at Oklahoma Baptist. The meet time is set for 6 p.m.
