GENEVA, Ohio – Five St. Gregory's University track athletes will compete for a national title this week at the 50th annual men's NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. The event takes place Thursday through Saturday at the SPIRE Institute Track and Field Sports Complex.
Hosea Maritim, Ben Dodson, Gustavo Escobar and Robert Torres all qualified based on their times earlier this season. Quintin Powell will serve as the Cavaliers' relay alternate.
Maritim will compete in the 800 and 4x800 relay. His time of 1:55.15 in the 800 earlier this season ranks ninth among his fellow competitors. He will begin his preliminary round at 3:30 p.m. (EST) Friday, and if he advances, will compete in the finals at 1:35 p.m. (EST) Saturday.
Maritim, Dodson, Escobar and Torres are scheduled to man the 4x800 relay. Their time of 7:59.58 ranks 16th among the teams competing. The event's preliminary round is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. (EST) Thursday with finals slated for 6 p.m. (EST) Friday.
