WINFIELD, Kan. – Several top 5 finishes and personal records highlighted the St. Gregory's track and field teams' first outdoor meet of the season. The women's team finished ninth overall, while the men's team posted a 10th-place finish at Thursday's Southwestern College Invitational.
The following are highlights from the meet:
- Quintin Powell finished second in the 400 with a time of 49.52 – just 1.3 off his personal best indoor 400 time.
- Robert Torres came in fifth in the 1500 at 4:07.53. Converted from the mile, that's a 13-second PR.
- Anthony Watkins was second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.08 – just .08 slower than the "B" national qualifying standard.
- Austin Stone finished eighth in the shot put (13.28) and 17th in the discus (36.97) – a PR.
- Jerica Heyd's 26.59 in the 200 was a PR. She finished 12th overall. Heyd finished second in the triple jump with an 11.00-meter mark.
- Sabrina DeSantiago was seventh in the 800 (2:28.03) and third in the 1500 (4:55.49). Her 1500 time was a 12-second PR (converted from the mile).
St. Gregory's returns to action March 28 at the Oklahoma Baptist Open in Shawnee.
