PITTSBURG, Kan. – Nearing the midpoint of the outdoor season, the St. Gregory's women's and men's track and field teams competed Saturday at the Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pittsburg State University at Carnie Smith Stadium.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Alexis Gee set a personal record in the 5K, finishing fourth in the event with a time of 19:26.82. Gee also added a top 5 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase – coming in at 12:35.94.
- Anthony Watkins turned in a pair of top 10 finishes in the hurdle events. He was fifth in the 400 hurdles at 55.10, just a little more than a half-second off the "B" national qualifying standard. Watkins finished ninth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.23.
- Quintin Powell finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 49.29, about eight tenths of a second slower than a "B" standard.
- Jerica Heyd finished seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 10.97 meters. She finished 0.43 meters shy of the "B" standard.
- Sabrina DeSantiago had a top 5 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She was fourth with a time of 12:13.59.
- Hosea Maritim came in sixth in the 800 at 1:55.59.
- Dustin Baxter achieved a new PR in the 5K with a time of 16:55.40. That was good enough for 11th overall.
- Ben Dodson and Dustin Swift set personal records in the 400 hurdles. Dodson was 13th with a time of 56.86, while Swift came in 16th at 58.23.
- Robert Torres and Abe Conley both were in the top 5 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Torres was third at 10:12.22, and Conley was fifth at 10:50.32.
St. Gregory's resumes competition April 18 at the East Texas Invitational in Commerce, Texas.
