JOPLIN, Mo. – A couple of national qualifying standards were narrowly missed, but several personal records were set by the St. Gregory's track and field teams Friday at the MSSU Williams/Laptad Invitational in Joplin, Mo.
Here are some of the highlights:
- For the second week in a row, the men's 4x400 relay team narrowly missed a "B" national qualifying standard. The team of Quintin Powell, Ben Dodson, Baldomero Lozano and Hosea Maritim finished second overall with a time of 3:17.77 – about 8/10 of a second off the standard.
- Quintin Powell achieved a personal record in the 400 with a time of 48.84 – just more than 3/10 of a second slower than the "B" national qualifying standard. His time was good enough for fifth out of 26 runners.
- Edgar Villarreal hit a personal record in the hammer throw. His toss of 41.94 meters placed 11th overall.
- Sara Cuzick finished ninth in the hammer throw with a season-best 43.53-meter toss.
- Jerica Heyd placed 16th in the 200 after turning in a PR of 26.19.
- Holly Anderson had a personal-best time of 16.40 in the 100-meter hurdles. That was good enough for 13th overall.
- Sabrina DeSantiago finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:23.10.
St. Gregory's continues competition April 30 at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas.
