LUBBOCK, Texas – St. Gregory's sophomore Jerica Heyd flew past an "A" national qualifying standard in the triple jump Thursday at the Red Raider Open, hosted by Texas Tech University. Heyd, competing just a few hours from her hometown of Dumas, Texas, highlighted a successful meet for both the men's and women's teams.

  • Heyd actually eclipsed an "A" standard with her first jump of 11.76. She outdid herself with her final jump, though, going for a huge 12.05 meters. That distance is currently good for fifth-best in the NAIA this season. Heyd also PR'd in the long jump with a leap of 5.37 meters.
  • Sara Cuzick finished fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.93. That was a season-best distance.
  • Sabrina DeSantiago earned a pair of top 10 finishes in the 1500 (4:57.12, 9th) and the 800 (2:22.19, 10th).
  • The men's 4x100 relay team of Kiaron McKinney, Demetrius Jones, Quintin Powell and Baldomero Lozano turned in a season-best performance of 42.56 – good for sixth overall.
  • McKinney achieved a personal record in the 100, coming in with a time of 11.05.

St. Gregory's competes in its last regular-season meet next Thursday at the OBU Last Chance Qualifier.
