GULF SHORES, Ala. – Highlighted by a national title from sophomore Jerica Heyd, four St. Gregory's athletes completed competition this week at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.

Heyd, a sophomore from Dumas, Texas, became only the second women's track and field athlete at SGU to earn an individual championship. She bested the field twice Friday night – posting distances of 12.23 and 12.25 meters. Warner Pacific's Alyssa Neal was second with a mark of 12.12.

Anthony Watkins, a junior from Kileen, Texas, was .28 seconds off making the finals in the 110 hurdles. His time of 14.83 was good enough for 14th overall in the preliminary round.

Quintin Powell, a native of Oklahoma City, closed his freshman season strong in the 400. He turned in a time of 49.10, which placed 19th among his competitors.

Alexis Gee, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, ran into foot problems in the 21st mile of the marathon Saturday morning and was unable to finish. She qualified with the top female time at the Strides of March Half Marathon in Oklahoma City.
