SHAWNEE – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently announced that St. Gregory's Hosea Maritim has been named a 2015 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete. Maritim was one of 287 men's track and field athletes to earn the honor.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and be at least a junior.

It is the second such honor this academic year for Maritim. He also was named a scholar athlete as a member of the Cavalier cross country team.

In the fall, Maritim qualified for cross country nationals for the second time in his career. He also earned a trip to indoor nationals in March where he finished 10th in the preliminary round of the 800-meter run.

The junior from Kenya has a 3.65 GPA while majoring in mathematics.
