LONGVIEW, Texas – St. Gregory's Kelsea Bandy connected on her first-career goal, but the Cavaliers were unable to overcome a flurry of early Wiley (Texas) scores in a 6-1 loss Saturday. After winning its first two games of the season by a combined 13-1, SGU was unable to get much going offensively at Lear Park Athletic Complex.
The Wildcats (2-0) were relentless out of the gate, connecting on goals in the eighth, 20th and 31st minutes of the game.
The Cavs finally answered with about 12 minutes left in the first half when Bandy converted a score from Abi Housecroft to make it 3-1 heading into intermission. Bandy, who entered the game with four career shots, converted her first-ever on-target attempt.
That's all the visitors could manage, though. Three second-half goals by Wiley's Idali Mesta put it away.
SGU was outshot 16-8 by the home team and put only two attempts on-goal for the contest. Mallory Adams and Jena Flewelling combined for five saves.
The Cavs travel to Sterling (Kan.) Tuesday. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
