COLUMBUS, Ga. – St. Gregory's swim team turned in perhaps its best performance to date on the NAIA's largest stage this week. The Cavaliers set 12 school records and advanced to the finals in six events at the 2016 NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships at the Columbus Aquatic Center.

The Cavaliers completed their second full season as a program.

  • Jason Schroeder won a swim-off with a school-record 53.03 to make the finals in the 100 backstroke. He placed 15th in the finals with a time of 53.87.
  • In the 100 fly, Schroeder finished 15th in both the prelims (51.75) and finals (51.86).
  • The men's 200 free relay (Garrett Thompson, Michael Heon, Austin Cody, Schroeder) finished 15th in prelims with a new school record of 1:28.77. They bettered that mark with a 1:28.20 in the finals – good for 13th overall.
  • The men's 200 medley relay (Schroeder, Cody, Michael White, Thompson) was seeded 10th going into the finals with a new school record of 1:35.87. They finished fourth in the B finals (12th overall) with a time of 1:36.58.
  • The men's 400 free relay team (Schroeder, White, Cody, Gabriel Sanchez) placed 15th with a 3:19.56 in the prelims before posting a school-record 3:15.19 in the finals with Schroeder, White, Cody and Thompson.
  • The men's 400 medley relay (Sanchez, Jeffrey Trout, Corey Grochow, Heon) finished 16th in the B relay prelims with a time of 4:03.57. Schroeder, Cody, White and Thompson finished fourth in the B finals (12th overall) with a new school record of 3:34.46.
  • In the 50 free, Schroeder finished 20th with a new school record of 21.46 in prelims. Thompson was 23rd after coming in at 21.56. Madison York set a new school record with a time of 25.61 (40th overall). Erica Heon was 46th (25.99), and Kaitlin Hampton came in 53rd (26.68).
  • The women's 200 free relay (York, Kaelyn Carter, Kaitlin Hampton, Erica Heon) finished 21st in the prelims with a new school record of 1:46.82.
  • Cody came in at 59.58 in the 100 breaststroke prelims. That was good for 21st.
  • In the 100 free, Thompson finished 22nd with a school record of 47.66 in the preliminary round. York placed 46th with a new school record of 57.09.
  • The women's 400 free relay (York, Carter, Hampton, Heon) finished 23rd in the prelims with a school-record 3:56.09.
