STEPHENVILLE, Texas – St. Gregory's completed a sweep of its Texas road trip with a 19-3 win over Tarleton State Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers won their fifth straight game, improving to 4-0 in Lone Star Alliance DII North play.
SGU (6-1) started each half strong, outscoring the Texans by a combined 14-1 in the first and third quarters. It was 6-0 Cavs just 5:15 into the contest as Chandler Peterson and Sean McCollough each accounted for two scores. Up 10-2 at halftime, the visitors tallied six of the third quarter's seven goals to make it 16-3 heading to the fourth.
Those offensive bursts proved to be more than enough, as Tanner Reese turned away eight of TSU's 11 on-target attempts.
Peterson had a career scoring day, posting a game-high five goals. He's had a hat trick in three of his last five outings. Smith continued to be a hat trick machine with another three-score game, and McCollough picked up his first collegiate hat trick with three goals.
The best all-around game belonged to Matthew Hyde, who collected two goals, four assists and a game-high nine ground balls. Hyde was 12-for-16 in faceoffs. Peterson and Chris Lester each contributed five ground balls.
The Cavs enjoyed a 50-16 advantage in total shots and a 43-16 edge in ground balls.
