WICHITA, Kan. – Personal bests, top finishes and even a school record was broken this weekend at the Friends Invitational in Wichita, Kan.

Both St. Gregory's teams finished in the top half of the competition. The men's team was fifth, while the women's team placed seventh.

Here are the highlights:

  • Quintin Powell broke the school record in the 200 with a time of 21.83. He placed third overall. Powell finished fourth in the 400 (50.14).
  • Robert Torres won the 1500 in 4:05.24 – nearly six seconds ahead of the nearest competitor. He was eighth in the 800 (1:59.95).
  • Alexis Gee won her second 10K of the year with a new personal record of 42:29.32.
  • Sabrina DeSantiago won the 800 after coming in at 2:26.09. DeSantiago placed sixth in the 1500 with a time of 5:04.31.
  • The men's 4x800 team (Mohamed Bassime, Robert Torres, Ben Dodson, Dustin Baxter) placed third with a time of 8:07.65.
  • Anthony Watkins came in at a season-best 15.18 in the 110 hurdles – good for fourth overall. Watkins was third in the 400 hurdles (55.80).
  • Luis Lopez set a new personal record in the 10K with a time of 37:16.95.
  • Edgar Villarreal set a new personal record in the hammer with a toss of 44.68. He placed fourth overall.
  • Austin Stone was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 13.12 meters.
  • Holly Anderson placed sixth in the 100 hurdles with a season best 16.29.
  • Sophia Weisbruch was eighth in the 800 (2:35.20).
  • Tyler Farris was ninth in the 200 (22.56).

St. Gregory's travels to the East Texas Invitational next weekend in Commerce, Texas.
