COMMERCE, Texas – A pair of school records coupled with some near misses on national qualifying standards highlighted the action for St. Gregory's Saturday at the East Texas Invitational. The event was hosted by Texas A&M Commerce at Memorial Stadium.
Here are some of the highlights:
- Sara Cusick set a school record in the hammer with a personal-best 46.68-meter toss. That was just .26 off a national qualifying standard. Cuzick finished third in the event.
- Holly Anderson broke a school record in the javelin with 30.09 meters on her final throw. That distance was good for third overall.
- Quintin Powell won his heat in the 400 with a time of 48.57 – just .07 off a "B" standard. He placed fourth overall.
- Sabrina DeSantiago won the 1500, coming in at 4:55.23.
- Robert Torres was second in the 1500 with a time of 4:04.17.
- Shannah Daymude (1:03.23) and Adrianna Garza (1:11.74) both set personal records in the 400.
- Dustin Baxter placed fourth in the 1500 with a time of 4:19.98. Baxter paired that with an eighth-place finish in the 5K (17:41).
- Anthony Watkins turned in a time of 55.13 in the 400 hurdles – good for fourth overall.
- DeSantiago (2:25.87) and Sophia Weisbruch (2:29.68) had season-best times in the 800. DeSantiago placed fifth, while Weisbruch was eighth.
St. Gregory's is scheduled to compete at the Southwestern Relays April 30 in Winfield, Kan.
