GAME NOTES

  • After dropping three of four during a brutal stretch against ranked opponents in late March, St. Gregory's has won five straight by a combined score of 86-18.
  • Ottawa comes in having won two consecutive contests – a 16-12 victory at Saint Mary and a 20-9 triumph at Benedictine.
  • A win today would clinch a spot in the KCAC Championship game Saturday at 2 p.m.
  • The Cavaliers and Braves met earlier this season in Ottawa. St. Gregory's rode a late run to a 16-14 win over then-No. 4 Ottawa March 20 at Peoples Bank Field. James Smith, Anthony Robinson and Chandler Peterson scored three goals each. Tanner Reese turned away 12 shots in goal.
  • James Smith leads SGU offensively with 69 goals this season. He has recorded a hat trick 15 times in 2016 and 26 of his last 29 games overall.
  • Matthew Hyde has totaled double-digit ground balls in eight of his last 10 games. Hyde also has a team-best 30 assists and is an astounding 77 percent (250-for-324) in face-off opportunities.
  • Tanner Reese has recorded double-digit saves in 11 games this season, including 30 against the University of Oklahoma.
  • After notching eight goals in all of 2015, Anthony Robinson has 32 this year. He set a career high against Tulsa with a seven-score night.
  • The Cavs' 10-0 blanking of Clarke on April 2 marked the program's first-ever shutout.
