JOPLIN, Mo. – St. Gregory's sophomore Quintin Powell added another event to his docket at nationals, qualifying in the 200 at the MSSU Last Chance Twilight meet Friday in Joplin, Mo.
Powell, who punched his ticket in the 400 last week in Texas, set a new school record in the 200 with an automatic qualifying time of 21.36. That was good enough for third overall. Powell actually broke his own school mark of 21.76 – also set last week.
The men's 4x100 relay team of Anthony Watkins, Taylor McKenzie, Ben Dodson and Powell won their event after finishing in 43.49.
McKenzie set a personal-best mark while breaking his own school record in the javelin. His toss of 48.51 meters was good for second.
Sara Cuzick finished third in the hammer with a throw of 43.19 meters – just under four meters shy of a "B" standard.
Dodson was about a second shy of the provisional standard in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.55. That was good for fourth. Robert Torres came in second in the 1500 with a time of 4:12.58.
The Cavs compete at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships May 26-28 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
