The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently announced that four St. Gregory's track and field athletes have been named 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Shannah Daymude, Alexis Gee, Hosea Maritim and Austin Stone earned the honor. Nationally, 753 track athletes received the award.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and be at least a junior.

Daymude, a junior from Gainesville, Texas, has a 3.7 grade point average while majoring in psychology. Gee, a junior from Moore, is a biomedical sciences major with a 3.6 GPA.

On the men's side, Kenya native Hosea Maritim boasts a 3.65 GPA in mathematics. Stone, a junior from Moore, has a 3.8 grade point average while majoring in psychology.

The SGU track and field squads recently completed a solid 2015-16 campaign. The teams broke several school records in additional to setting numerous personal bests. The women's team was honored with the school's first-ever Five Star Champions of Character Award, and Sabrina DeSantiago earned All-America status via the marathon.
