SHAWNEE – Jarvis Christian (Texas) made an early score stick in a 1-0 win over St. Gregory's Thursday afternoon at Fr. Victor Roberts Field. The Bulldogs won their second straight, snapping the Cavaliers' two-game victory streak in the process.
The visitors didn't get many opportunities, but they only needed Carlos Villareal's unassisted score in the 13th minute to post the win. Villareal settled a loose ball and booted it into the left side – just beyond a diving Adrian Cole.
SGU outshot JCC, 13-4, for the game and 10-3 in the final 45 minutes. The Cavs couldn't capitalize on their tries, however, during that frantic second-half push.
Frank Molina, the reigning Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, led all players with four shots – including a one-on-one try that JCC keeper Luis Ledezma snared.
Cole surrendered just his third goal of the season – a span of 540 minutes. He had one save.
St. Gregory's (4-2) hosts McPherson (Kan.) Saturday. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Fr. Victor Roberts Field.
