SHAWNEE – Southwestern Christian's Walton Domingos netted a golden goal in overtime, sending the Eagles to a 1-0 win over St. Gregory's Saturday at Fr. Victor Roberts Field. SCU won for the fifth time in six games, while the Cavaliers suffered their fourth straight defeat.
Domingos snapped the scoreless tie in the 96th minute, depositing a pass from teammate Lucas Loureiro into the right side of the net.
SCU, which received votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, finally found pay dirt after struggling to convert offensive chances. The Eagles outshot the Cavaliers – who packed it in on the defensive half of the field – by a margin of 28-4.
Adrian Cole and the SGU back line stood firm throughout in the loss. Cole finished with 10 saves – the eighth double-digit save effort of his career.
Francisco Arvizo led the home team with two shot attempts – both headers that sailed high.
The Cavs return to action Tuesday at home against Wayland Baptist (Texas). Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Fr. Victor Roberts Field.
