SHAWNEE – St. Gregory's saw its program-record 11-match win streak come to end Saturday at Sumner Field House. Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) swept the Cavaliers, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21), avenging last month's loss to SGU in Waxahachie.
The Cavaliers (18-9, 9-3 SAC) dropped into a third-place tie with Texas Wesleyan in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings.
SAGU (14-12, 6-6 SAC) hit .255 as a team, closing strong in all three tightly contested sets. SGU led 20-18 in the first before the visitors scored seven consecutive points to go up 1-0. The Lady Lions, up 20-18 in the second, scored five of the frame's final seven points to make it a two-set advantage.
The third game played out much like the first two. Up 22-20, SAGU ended it by taking three of the next four points.
Ashlyn Broussard's double-double streak of seven matches ended in the loss. She finished with seven kills and 10 digs. Sarah Ahrens had 30 assists, while Kayley Davis tallied a team-high 13 digs. The Cavs hit .135 as a team.
Kali Shaw led the Lady Lions with 12 kills and 10 digs. Sophia Ivy finished with a match-high 32 assists, and Celi Bruce had a match-best 15 digs.
SGU travels to Southwestern Christian Thursday. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Bethany.
