CHICKASHA – St. Gregory's rallied from an early deficit to defeat USAO, 3-1 (26-28, 25-14, 25-22, 25-22), Friday night in Chickasha. The Cavaliers snapped a two-match skid and remained in a third-place tie with Texas Wesleyan in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings.
SGU (19-10, 10-4 SAC) faced set point three times before finally succumbing to the home team in a back-and-forth first frame. The Cavs responded, though, with a resounding win in the second. The visitors hit .345 in easily taking the game.
SGU would hold the Drovers to a .012 attacking clip from there and used late-set surges to close it out. The Cavs scored five of the last seven points in the third before keeping USAO at arm's length – never giving up the lead past 5-4 – to end it in the fourth.
Ashlyn Broussard notched her 21st double-double of the season, pouring in 21 kills and 19 digs. Gabby Ware added 14 kills and 17 digs, while Bianca Olivares nearly doubled her career high with 45 assists. Defensively, Kayley Davis tallied a team-best 20 digs, while Courtney Murphy rejected six attacks.
SGU takes a break from conference play Tuesday when it travels to NCAA Division II Southwestern Oklahoma State. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Weatherford.
