St. Gregory's University senior Monika Kalicinska got her cross country season off to fast start, placing third overall at the UCO Land Run on Saturday in Edmond. Kalicinska, a native of Wroclaw, Poland, finished with a time of 19:01.44, which was less than a minute behind the top finisher.
"Monika ran well up front for us," said first-year SGU coach Matt Aguero. "We need to work on some pacing issues with a few of our runners, but that is expected with such a young team. I look forward to seeing us progress over the next few weeks."
Kalicinska was followed by Felicia Kuse (21:35.01 - 41st), Jazmin Gonzalez (22:32.65 - 51st), Callie Pacheco (23:25.83 - 59th) and Michaela Roe (28:59.67 - 67th). The Cavaliers placed sixth as a team.
Saturday's meet was the first for the Cavaliers since the 2008 season when cross country was discontinued by the university. SGU returns to action September 29 when they travel to Stillwater for the OSU Cowboy Jamboree.
