SHAWNEE- The Cavaliers (2-21, 0-16 SAC) fell to the No. 7 Oklahoma City University Stars (24-2, 15-1 SAC) on Saturday afternoon, 113-44. The Stars came out shooting red hot. OCU jumped out to a 17-4 lead halfway through the first, and the Stars led 27-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Stars started the second quarter on a 16-0 run to increase their lead to 43-7. SGU would start to score a little more, but at halftime the Cavs trailed 57-18.
Oklahoma City shot 70 percent from the field in the first half, and they scored 30 of their 58 points, from inside the paint. OCU scored 12 points off of Cavalier turnovers, and they out-rebounded SGU, 18-13. OCU held SGU to shooting only 25.8 percent from the field in the first half.
Daniela Galindo scored 19 points for the Stars, and Daniela Wallen had 16 points and 9 rebounds in the first half.
The Cavs were led by Shanques Garrett (SR/Tulsa, Okla.)'s 6 points in the first half.
Oklahoma City started the third quarter by going on a 14-0 run. OCU held SGU to shooting one for eleven from the field in the quarter. Heading into the fourth quarter the score was 87-24. In the fourth quarter the Stars closed out the game by out-scoring the Cavs, 26-20.
The Stars finished the game shooting 66.7 percent from the field, and they held the Cavs to shooting only 27.8 percent from the field. OCU shot 91.2 percent from the free-throw line, making 31 of 34 shots from the stripe. SGU committed 19 turnovers, which led to 25 points for OCU. Oklahoma City scored 60 points in the paint, and they had 20 assists as a team.
The Cavaliers were led offensively by Kylee Tatum (SR/Bethel, Okla.) and Danielle Butler (SR/Ft. Worth, Texas)'s 9 points a piece. Lauren Godbold (FR/Arlington, Texas) scored 8 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Shanques Garrett finished with 8 points and three blocks.
The Stars were led by Daniela Wallen's 20 points and 9 rebounds in 22 minutes played. Daniela Galindo scored 19 points and dished out 4 assists. Allison Frey and Brooke Irwin each scored 12 points. Alexis Hill scored 15 points in 16 minutes.
The Cavs will be playing at home again on Thursday, Feb. 23, when they face Mid-America Christian University at 6 PM.
