OKLAHOMA CITY- On Friday and Saturday, the Cavaliers cheer team competed at the first ever NAIA Competitive Cheer & Dance Championships in Oklahoma City. Prior to competing at the National Championships, the Cavs cheer squad hosted the Southern Regional and SGU took second place out of the 9 teams, and they qualified for the National Championships as an at-large bid.
The Cavaliers competed in the preliminary round of the National Championships on Friday, and they earned a seventh seed for the final round. In the finals on Saturday, the Cavs cheer team finished in ninth place out of the 44 teams that competed to win the national championship.
Coach Mandy Thomson said, "The team this year exuded more perseverance than any team that has come through St. Gregory's. They dealt with injury and illness constantly, yet continued to push their hardest and to prove their resilliance."
SGU will now begin building towards next year as they hope to keep on pushing for that national championship.
