SHAWNEE- St. Gregory's (13-9, 7-5 SAC) used a walk-off win in game two of the double-header against Texas Wesleyan (16-13, 4-6 SAC) to come away with the sweep of the two games. The Cavs won game won 6-0, and then won game two 4-3, after a walk-off, two-run double by Sammy Leisinger (SR/Little Axe, Okla.).
The got going early in game one by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and second innings. Sutv Meely (SR/Tecumseh, Okla.) and Sammy Leisinger scored the Cavs first two runs, when Lauren Miller (JR/Blanchard, Okla.) hit a double off the wall, down the rightfield line. In the second inning the Cavaliers scored their first run when Janely Cruz (SO/Grand Prairie, Texas) stole second base, allowing Meely to sneak home on the throw to second. Lauren Miller then drove in Cruz with a single right. SGU scored their final two runs of game one in the bottom of the fourth inning. The first run came across on a sac bunt by Cruz, that allowed Meely to score once more. Cruz was then knocked home on a RBI single by Crystal Pablo (SO/Gallup, N.M.).
The Cavs offense was led by Lauren Miller's 2-4 performance, as she hit a double and drove in three runs. Sutv Meely also had a great game at the plate by going 3-4 with three runs scored and four stolen bases. Sammy Leisinger, Crystal Pablo, and Jessica Nelson (JR/Lewisville, Texas) each had one hit a piece in game one of the double-header.
Bryn Houlton (JR/Savanna, Okla.) pitched lights out all day long. In game one she picked up her seventh win of the season, and in game two she picked up her eighth, in a steller releif apperance. Houlton went all 7 innings in game one, allowing zero runs on only three hits, and she struck out three batters as well. She followed that performance up with another scoreless appearance in game two. Chula Chavez (JR/Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) pitched the first 1 2/3 innings of game two, but then Houlton pitched the last 5 1/3, allowing zero runs on only one hit, and she struck out four batters.
St. Gregory's trailed for all of game two until the final at bat of the game, when Sammy Leisinger became the hero of the day. The Rams got an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and then the Cavs answered that with a run of their own when Lauren Miller drove in Leisinger with a double. Texas Wesleyan would extend their lead to 3-1 in the top of the second, but that would be all they'd get, thanks to the excellent pitching of Bryn Houlton. SGU cut the Rams lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single from Jessica Nelson, that brought in Crystal Pablo. In the bottom of the seventh, Sutv Meely got the Cavs going by hitting a one-out triple to deep right-center. Baylee Hughes (FR/Brighton, Ill.) then forced a walk. The next batter was Sammy Leisinger, and she laced a double to deep right-center, which brought in Meely and Hughes for the walk-off win.
Leisinger went 2-4 in game two, with a double and two RBI's. Lauren Miller went 1-3 with a double and a RBI, and Jessica Nelson went 1-2 with one RBI. Meely, Pablo, and Morgan Lathan (FR/Purcell, OK) each had one hit in game two.
The Cavs now get ready for another double-header tomorrow (Sat., April 1) as they will face SAGU at the softball field on St. Gregory's campus. The first game of the double-header is scheduled to begin at noon.
