WICHITA, Kan.- On Fri. and Sat. the Cavaliers track & field teams competed at the Friends Invitational in Wichita, Kan. The highlights of the weekend was the new school record set by Christian Arbuthnot (FR/Goodwell, Okla.) (FR/Goodwell, Okla.) in the men's 3,000 meter steeple, and that Jasmine Mason (FR/Del City, Okla.) qualified for nationals in the 100 meter sprint, and she is ranked thirteenth in the nation in the event. The new school record was also a personal best time for Arbuthnot. Luis Lopez (SO/McAllen, Texas) (SO/McAllen, Texas) set a personal record in the steeple as well. Robert Torres (SR/Salinas, Calif.) (SR/Salinas, Calif.) ran a season best time in the men's 1500 meter runand Colton Edelen (FR/Edmond, Okla.) (FR/Edmond, Okla.) ran a personal best in the 400 meter sprint. Demetrius Jones (JR/Edmond, Okla.) (JR/Edmond, Okla.) set a new personal record in the 110 meter hurtles and the 100 meter sprint. Jones nearly qualified for nationals in the 110 meter hurdles. Josh Garcia (FR/Pharr, Texas) (FR/Pharr, Texas), McCrae Lopez (SO/Buna, Texas) (SO/Buna, Texas), Oscar Garza (SR/Harlingen, Texas) (SR/Harlingen, Texas), Brandon Bradford (FR/McAllen, Texas) (FR/McAllen, Texas), and Albert Araiza (FR/San Antonio, Texas) (FR/San Antonio, Texas) each set met personal records in the 100 meter sprint. Garza, Garcia, Araiza, Edelen, and McCrae Lopez each set new personal best times in the 200 meter sprint as well.
On the women's side, Sabrina DeSantiago (JR/Lubbock, Texas) (JR/Lubbock, Texas) set a season best time in the 1500 meter run, and Kathleen Joyce (FR/Edmond, Okla.) (FR/Edmond, Okla.) set a personal record in the women's steeple race. Alexas Vargas (FR/Terrell, Texas) (FR/Terrell, Texas) set a new personal record in the 5000 meter run and Jasmine Exum (FR/Edmond, Okla.) (FR/Edmond, Okla.) set a new personal record in the 100 meter hurdles. Holly Anderson (JR/Alex, Okla.) (JR/Alex, Okla.) also ran in the 100 meter hurdles and she set a new season best time for her. Sabrina DeSantiago and Jasmine Exum each set new personal records in the 400 meter hurdles. Jackie Lara (FR/Laverne, Okla.) (FR/Laverne, Okla.), Tayler Woodard (FR/Broken Arrow, Okla.) (FR/Broken Arrow, Okla.), and Natalia Torres-Perez (FR/Katy, Texas) (FR/Katy, Texas) each set new personal records in the 200 meter sprint.
Both teams will be back in action on April 22, when they head to Hillsboro, Kan. for the Tabor Invitational.
