The St. Gregory's University men's soccer team couldn't capitalize on several opportunities in the box and fell to Lubbock Christian 3-1 on Thursday at Fr. Victor Roberts Field. The Cavaliers had eight shots on goal and outshot the visitors 16-13 but only managed one goal in losing for the third consecutive game.

"We just couldn't capitalize in front of the net," said SGU coach Andrew Rundell. "We had five really good opportunities and didn't score any of them. If we create good shots, we've got to start finishing them."

The Chaparrals jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage on goals by Stewart MacDonnell and Nick Gorrie. SGU answered just before halftime on an Alex Burton goal to make it 2-1. The Cavaliers outshot LCU 7-4 in the final 45 minutes but couldn't find the equalizer. Gorrie's second goal with eight minutes remaining put the game away.

Cavalier freshman Mark McGrath led the team with four shots, including two on goal. Junior keeper Brock Vorwald recorded six saves.

SGU (4-6, 0-2 SAC) will return to action Saturday at home against Wayland Baptist. That contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
