SHAWNEE (Oct. 6, 2012) - Wayland Baptist set the tone early Saturday at Fr. Victor Roberts Field, scoring just 46 seconds into a 3-1 win over St. Gregory's in women's soccer action. Zoe Benson's cross found Jessica Bell in the box for a goal shortly after kickoff, and the Pioneers' defensive pressure did the rest.
WBU made it a two-goal advantage in the 36th minute on a Whitney Phillips goal, and in the 83rd minute, Emarie Holland's unassisted goal pushed the lead to 3-0. The Cavs' Emily Lee scored in the 88th minute, but it came too late for the home team to mount any kind of comeback.
SGU (0-10-1, 0-3) lost its seventh consecutive game. The Cavaliers were outshot 18-8, including an 11-2 deficit in the first half. Jennifer Alesch led the SGU attack with three shots. Cavalier keeper Jennifer Taber recorded four saves.
The Cavaliers return to action Friday when they host conference foe Mid-America Christian. That game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
