SHAWNEE - The No. 9-ranked Oklahoma City University women's soccer team put a damper on St. Gregory's Senior Day, exploding for five second-half goals in a 7-0 win Tuesday at Fr. Victor Roberts Field. The win was the seventh in a row for OCU, who improved to 15-1 on the season.
Up 2-0 at intermission, the Stars came out firing in the second half, outshooting the home team 11-2 over the final 45 minutes. By the 60th minute, OCU had increased its lead to 5-0. Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week Meghan McMahon made it 6-0 in the 70th minute on her fourth goal of the game.
Sarah Cochlin, Kaitlin Hannaford and Jennifer Alesch led the SGU attack with one shot each. Cavalier keeper Jennifer Taber recorded a game-high two saves.
After the game, St. Gregory's recognized seven seniors who played their final home game: Heather Anderson, Taber, Criscela Hernandez, Cochlin, Alesch, Jessica Leiva and Frances Perry.
"I am pleased to have worked with this group of seniors," said first-year SGU coach Tommy Riley. "They have been the leaders of this team since I took the job. I'm sad to see them leave, and I wish them the best of luck in all they do."
The Cavaliers conclude their season Friday at Rogers State University. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
