The St. Gregory's University volleyball team has qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2001. Oklahoma Baptist University will host the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Friday and Saturday with the winner receiving an automatic berth to the NAIA Tournament. The sixth-seeded Cavaliers open the tournament at 10:30 a.m. on Friday against third-seeded Wayland Baptist.

The Cavaliers are gearing up to make a deep run in the postseason. The Cavs' first round match-up against Wayland Baptist is a good one for the team. Even though they lost to the Pioneers both times this season, they played them tough.

"I am proud of the goals we have accomplished and look forward to an exciting conference tournament," said first-year coach Katrina English "We will need every player to work hard to get to regionals, but I expect seniors Aminah Orozco and Kim Seiler, sophomore Tiphani Funk and freshman Joey Redwine to lead the way."

If the Cavaliers can control unforced errors, they should have a good chance to advance in the tournament. The Cavaliers will play at 4 p.m. on Friday if they advance past the first game.

"This has been a great season of learning and developing a true collegiate program," English said. "The girls have worked hard in building a foundation of discipline and determination that will catapult us into more competitive seasons to come. This group of girls has great potential and is consistently growing."
