SHAWNEE – St. Gregory's University women's basketball player Leticia Silva was named to the NAIA All-America third team, it was announced Wednesday. Silva, a senior from Whitesboro, Texas, was second in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 16.3 scoring average during the 2012-13 season.

"I feel honored," said Silva, who was one of 10 Division I players on the third team. "It is good to know that hard work really does pay off. I am fortunate to be able to complete my senior season with such a great award."

Silva became SGU's all-time leading scorer this season and finished with 1,842 points for her career. She adds this national honor to a regional award – the Capital One Academic All-District VII first team – that she received in January. In the last month, Silva has been named first-team All-SAC, Academic All-SAC and NAIA Scholar Athlete.

"I am excited for Leticia and for our program," said SGU coach Herman Burge. "This type of honor really speaks to the time and dedication she has put forth, and it has paid off."

Silva led the team in scoring in each of her four years at SGU. She also led the team in rebounding and total three-pointers made this season. Silva had a career-best 505 points in 2012-13.
