DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The St. Gregory's University cheer squad is one of four All-Girl division teams moving on to the finals of the NCA/NDA NAIA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Cavaliers earned their spot with a score of 86.63 in Thursday's preliminary round. SGU will perform at 10:21 a.m. (CST) Friday for a chance at a national title.
Making its first-ever appearance at nationals, the Cavaliers finished only 0.42 points behind defending champion Oklahoma City University Thursday. Indiana University Northwest led all teams on Day 1 with 90.03 points.
SGU booked its inaugural trip to nationals in early February when it finished second at the NAIA South Qualifying Group Cheer/Dance Championships in Oklahoma City. The Cavs finished less than a point behind OCU that day.
In the All-Girls division, SGU is judged in categories such as stunts, baskets, pyramids, jumps, tumbling and motions/dance.
