SHAWNEE – Dominic Cabada won the 5,000-meter run Saturday, pacing all St. Gregory's athletes at the Sooner Athletic Conference Classic. One Cavalier – Anthony Watkins – earned a national qualifying standard at the event, which was held on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University.

Cabada, a freshman from Boulder, Colo., came in with a time of 16:08.84, about four seconds faster than the nearest competitor. Watkins, who earned a standard in the 110-meter hurdles two previous times this season, did so again Saturday. His time of 14.79 was good enough for fourth overall and was only one one-hundredth of a second slower than his season-best time.

Other top 5 finishers included Dontayveous Allen in the 800-meter run (1:56.66, 3rd) and Jeremie Tuller in the 400-meter hurdles (56.88, 3rd).

SGU returns to action Thursday at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The team heads to Joplin, Mo., Saturday for the MSSU Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Open Invitational.
