SHAWNEE -- St. Gregory's sophomore Hosea Maritim created some positive momentum going into this month's national meet, turning in a season-best time of 1:53.48 in the 800 Friday at the OBU Last Chance. Maritim, who earned a "B" qualifying standard with his performance, bested his previous top time by nearly seven-tenths of a second.
A sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, Maritim capped a regular season for the Cavs that included several national qualifiers. Vivien Majorel earned an "A" mark in the 800, Anthony Watkins hit a B in the 110 hurdles and the 4x800 relay team punched its ticket with a B standard.
The NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held May 22-24 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Other top performances Friday included season-best times from Ben Dodson in the 200 and Edgar Villarreal in the hammer.
