OSAWATOMIE, Kan. – Paced by four individual runner-up finishes, the St. Gregory's women's swimming and diving team got its program off to a solid start Saturday afternoon.

The Cavaliers lost the dual meet, 117-25, to Tabor (Kan.) in its first-ever official competition. But head coach Lyndsay Watts said her three-athlete women's squad showed several positives.

"I was extremely proud of them," said Watts, who was hired in February to lead the program in its inaugural season. "I could tell they were nervous coming out, but they competed hard. We certainly got plenty of great experience today."

Kaitlin Hampton posted three of the four runner-up finishes (200 IM, 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke). Erica Heon finished second in the 50 freestyle (28.91) and third in the 100 freestyle (1:04.92), while freshman Ashley Haan got her first collegiate experience in the 50 and 100 freestyle. She earned her team fourth-place points in the 50.

The Cavaliers resume competition October 24-25 at the Wayland Baptist Invitational.
