OSAWATOMIE, Kan. – Competing in its first-ever meet, the St. Gregory's men's swimming and diving team earned three national qualifying standards. The Cavaliers won three events overall but dropped the dual to Tabor (Kan.), 91-56, Saturday afternoon.

Austin Cody won the 200 freestyle before hitting a qualifying standard while winning the 100 breaststroke. He came in with a time of 1:02.53 in that event, just four-tenths of a second faster than the standard.

The relay teams also had a good day. The Cavs posted a time of 1:49.06 in the 200 medley and 1:36.39 in the 200 freestyle. Both were good enough for national qualifying standards.

"The guys had faster splits in the relays than they did in their individual competitions," said head coach Lyndsay Watts. "I was impressed that they came together and pushed each other in the team events. What a great start."

Mark Roselius won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.99, and Dusty Samford finished runner-up in the 100 freestyle (54.35). Michael Heon finished second in the 100 butterfly after posting a time of 1:10.30.

The Cavaliers resume competition October 24-25 at the Wayland Baptist Invitational.
