Men's Swimming & Diving - Sat, Oct. 25, 2014

LUBBOCK, Texas – The St. Gregory's men's swimming team had a productive weekend, hitting three relay and two individual national standards at the Wayland Baptist Invitational and Relays Friday and Saturday.

"We had a blast beating our personal best times in multiple races," said St. Gregory's coach Lyndsay Watts. "It was so rewarding for these swimmers, seeing all of their hard work in practice pay off in the meets."

The 400-yard medley relay team of Gabe Sanchez, Austin Cody, Jason Schroeder and Garrett Thompson came in third Friday night with a time of 3:44.15 – about 13 seconds ahead of the standard.

That was followed up in the last event of the night with another standard, this time in the 400 freestyle relay. Jaedon Roe, Dusty Samford, Mark Roselius and Thompson combined to finish fourth there with a time of 3:26.84, which was three seconds ahead of the national mark.

Thompson shined individually Friday as well. He finished second out of 20 competitors in the 50 freestyle, turning in a "B" standard time of 22.33. Thompson had another runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle after coming in at 49.75, again just ahead of the "B" standard.

Saturday's relays saw the Cavs add another standard to their list. Roe, Roselius, Samford and Thompson teamed up again for a time of 1:33.53 in the 200-yard freestyle relay – about three seconds better than the standard.

The Cavaliers return to action November 7-8 at the Henderson State Invitational in Bryant, Arkansas.
