ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – No new national standards were earned, but St. Gregory's improved on several times Friday and Saturday at the Henderson State Invitational. The Cavaliers finished fourth overall, earning 212 team points against NCAA foes.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Dusty Samford, Mark Roselius, Michael Heon and Garrett Thompson continue to smash the national standard of 1:36.6. They came in at 1:32.45 – more than four seconds faster than the mark.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Jason Schroeder, Austin Cody, Tim Hyland and Roselius shattered the standard again Saturday, turning in a season-best time of 1:42.30 – more than eight seconds faster than the standard.
Rounding out the relay highlights was the 400-yard freestyle team of Cody, Samford, Schroeder and Thompson. They earned the national standard again with a time of 3:25.33.
Thompson continued to improve in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the event with a time of 22.32. That was .23 seconds off an "A" standard. Cody turned in a season-best time of 1:01.75 in the 100-yard breaststroke, improving on a standard he hit in the year's first meet.
Schroeder narrowly missed a standard in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing sixth with a time of 55.37. That was about a half-second off the standard.
St. Gregory's resumes competition November 14 at the UTPB-McMurry Tri-Meet in Abilene, Texas. The Cavs take part in the UTPB-Wayland Baptist Tri-Meet November 15 in Midland, Texas.
