BADDECK, NS, Canada – Brett Kennedy, a 2016 St. Gregory's University graduate and former member of the men's golf team, competed in the Cape Breton Open this week on the Mackenzie Tour in Canada. Also known as the PGA Tour Canada, the Mackenzie Tour is just two levels away from the PGA Tour in the United States with the Web.com Tour being the gatekeeper to the big show.

Kennedy went out strong in the first round on Thursday with an even par front nine which included birdies on holes four and seven, but found a few bogeys on the back nine to finish the day at 3-over par. Round two saw just one birdie on the day, leaving Kennedy short of the score to make the cut.

When asked about his experience in his first major tour tournament Kennedy had this to say. "It was a great experience. I know I have to get out there more to compete. My plan from here is to go to Q School again for the Mackenzie Tour and try to play in more events in Canada. Just overall a really cool experience."

Coach Bennett had this to say about his former standout player. "Brett was a great player for us here at SGU and I am not surprised by his success as a professional. Just to qualify for an event like this is a great honor and shows that hard work is paying off. I know Brett will be back out there playing in more big time events and we look forward to seeing him represent St. Gregory's Golf well!"

Kennedy, a native of Kitchener, Ontario in Canada played just one season for the Cavaliers after transferring from Northern New Mexico College in the fall of 2015. He carried a 74.3 average over his final semester at SGU which included a win at the Central Baptist Spring Invite and an All-Conference performance at the SAC Championship.
