SHAWNEE – St. Gregory's University athletic director John Martin recently announced the promotion of Cody Ingold and Alice Ross to head coaching positions. Ingold, SGU's men's cross country coach, also will serve as head men's track and field coach. Ross has been appointed to lead both the women's cross country and the women's track and field programs.

Ingold and Ross served as assistant track and field coaches last season for the Cavaliers under Mark Betterton, who recently stepped down after helping guide the programs for two years.

"Coach Ingold and Coach Ross both left great impressions on these programs last season as assistants, so I'm looking forward to their impacts as head coaches," Martin said. "They each possess exceptional leadership qualities and have shown the determination to succeed no matter the situation. Coach Betterton did a great job preparing them for these roles, and we are extremely grateful for his contributions over the past two years."

Ingold, who came to Shawnee last August, is a 2009 graduate of Doane College. As a member of both the Tiger cross country and track and field teams, he was a two-time NAIA All-American and seven-time national qualifier.

Following graduation, Ingold served as an assistant coach at both Dana College and his alma mater. He then accepted an assistant coaching position at William Penn University, where he spent the three years before coming to St. Gregory's. During his career, he has coached 52 national qualifiers, seven All-Americans and two national champions.

"I am very grateful for this opportunity provided to me by Coach Martin and the St. Gregory's administration," Ingold said. "I would like to thank Coach Betterton – his faith, values and leadership helped lay the foundation here, and as a team, we will continue to build on that. I look forward to supporting our talented returning and incoming athletes as they work toward academic and athletic success."

While completing her master's degree in business leadership at William Penn, Ross served as a graduate assistant to both the cross country and track and field programs as a coach and athletic trainer. During her time at William Penn, she assisted in coaching three NAIA All-Americans and 10 national qualifiers.

Ross graduated from Graceland University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in athletic training and physical education. As a Yellowjacket, she was an NAIA national qualifier, scholar athlete and held two school records.

"I'm excited and extremely grateful that St. Gregory's has given me the opportunity to continue to help foster the athletic, academic and personal development of these programs," Ross said. "We have a talented group of student athletes, and it's been a pleasure to coach them. I would like to thank both Coach Betterton and Coach Ingold for their help along the way."
