Southwestern Christian (Okla.) University used a stifling defensive effort to blank St. Gregory's University 5-0 on Wednesday at Father Victor Roberts Field. The loss was the first at home for the Cavaliers this season.
"It was a disappointing effort," said SGU coach Andrew Rundell. "We made silly mistakes in the back that cost us two goals. We just didn't have it in us today. We've got to get back to training and come back with a good result the next time out."
SGU (1-3) outshot the visitors 4-3 in the first half, but trailed 1-0 at the break on the first of two goals from SCU's Svetislav Milic. The Eagles poured it on in the second half, beginning with Milic's second goal in the 50th minute. SCU added scores in the 63rd, 84th and 88th minutes, and outshot the Cavaliers 8-2 after halftime.
SGU sophomore Jason Swift led the team with two shots, while Luke Keogh, Stephen Cummins, Ricardo Almeida and Greg Keogh all posted one shot. Cavalier goalie Zach Holetzky recorded two saves.
The Cavaliers return to action September 11 at Bethel College. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
