The Cavalier volleyball team played their second conference match of the season Tuesday night when MACU came to town. After tieing the match at two sets a piece the visitors narrowly pulled out the victory in the last set, winning the match 3-2.
The Cavaliers dropped the first two sets of the match by the scores of 25-23 and 25-22. The Cavs out hit their opponents during these two sets, however also collected six more hitting errors which eventually cost the home team the first two sets.
In sets three and four the Cavaliers looked as if they had found their stride and they started dominating at the net. The Cavaliers won set four 25-21 and then ran away with the fourth one by the score of 25-17.
The fifth and final set was anyone's game with the score going back and forth until the Cavaliers looked to take charge behind four straight scoring serves from Kimmy Seiler to give the Cavs a three point lead at 10-7. Mid America Christian would not go away as they retook the lead at 15-14. After the Cavs tied the game at 15, the Evangels scored the last tow points of the match to win 17-15.
Freshman Joey Redwine once again led the Cavaliers at the net with 21 kills, Tiphani Funk was the only other Cavalier in double figures as she ended the match with 12 kills of her own.
Cavalier setter Aminah Orozco would help the Cavaliers to their 63 kills on the night as she ended the match with 29 assists. Daniella Rivera played a solid game on the back line as she was the team leader with 21 digs.
With the loss the Cavaliers fall to 6-4 on the season and 0-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. It was the first time that the team had dropped two games in a row. The Cavs will next travel north to Salina, Kansas this weekend to play four matches at the Kansas Wesleyan University Tournament. The team will be back at home next Tuesday night as they play SAC rival OBU at 7pm.
