The St. Gregory's University women's soccer team couldn't hold onto a late lead on Thursday at Fr. Victor Roberts Field, falling to unbeaten Lubbock Christian 2-1. Despite being outshot 25-5 for the game, the Cavaliers held a 1-0 advantage with less than seven minutes to play. The Chaparrals rallied though, scoring goals in the 84th and 85th minute to stun the home team.

"Again, we showed we could compete and hang in there," said SGU coach Tommy Riley. "But our lack of concentration cost us in the end. It's a frustrating loss…probably our toughest loss of the year. Hopefully, we can learn from this and build on it as we get ready for our next game on Saturday."

SGU junior Samantha Gonzalez broke a scoreless tie midway through the second half with her first goal of the season. The Chaparrals (12-0, 2-0 SAC) then went on the offensive, getting off six shots before Emily Odom finally broke through with the equalizer at the 6:22 mark. LCU didn't waste any time in taking the lead as Brooke Wendl found Jordin Farris running free for the game-winner about a minute later.

SGU keeper Jennifer Taber had a season-high 15 saves, including 10 in the second half. Cavalier senior Criscela Hernandez led the attack with two shots.

The Cavaliers (0-9-1, 0-2 SAC) return to action Saturday at home against Wayland Baptist. That game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
