SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. - The St. Gregory's University men's soccer team once again outshot its opponent, but once again dropped a conference game. This time, the Cavaliers couldn't overcome two first-half goals Wednesday in a 2-1 loss at John Brown University.
For the fourth consecutive game, SGU had the advantage on shots (17-15) but couldn't come up with a win. The Cavaliers have lost six in a row overall and four consecutive games by one goal.
JBU (6-5-1, 2-3 SAC) jumped on top just four minutes into the game when Zari Prescod dribbled through defenders and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. SGU went on the attack for the remainder of the period and came close to scoring the equalizer on a couple of occassions. One of its best opportunities came with just more than two minutes remaining in the half when junior Alex Burton hit a shot that got past the keeper but glanced off the post. The Golden Eagles siezed the momentum seconds later on a Brandon Sikes goal to make it 2-0.
The Cavaliers outshot the home team 9-6 in the first half.
SGU finally got on the board in the 74th minute on a Stephen Cummins goal, but couldn't find the equalizer late. Cummins, a junior from Ireland, leads the team with five goals this season. Burton and Mark McGrath both had a team-high four shots. Keeper Brock Vorwald finished with four saves for the Cavs.
The Cavaliers (4-9, 0-5 SAC) return to action Friday at rival Oklahoma Baptist University. That game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
