SHAWNEE – For much of Tuesday's doubleheader against No. 7 Oklahoma City, No. 12 St. Gregory's had trouble coming up with a timely hit. It cost them in the end as the Stars swept the Cavaliers, 1-0 and 9-5, at the SGU Softball Complex. With the losses, SGU fell into a tie for third with Rogers State in the conference standings.

Between the two games, SGU had base runners in all but two innings. The home team, however, stranded 21 of them for the day.

Magean De La Torre's fourth-inning, RBI double into the right-center field gap was the difference in the opener, as the Cavs couldn't get a run across against OCU starter Jamie Rateliff. SGU got the tying run to third in both the sixth and seventh innings but came up empty on both occasions.

Sierra Gallego gave up the only run of the game on three hits, losing for the first time in seven decisions. Whitney Anderson and Danielle Bacon both recorded doubles for the Cavs, who out-hit the Stars 6-3.

SGU took its first lead of the day in the opening frame of Game 2 on Bacon's RBI single. The Cavs got two more runs in the second on a throwing error and a bases-loaded walk, but like most of the day, had their chances to score more. The home team left the bags full in both the first and second innings.

Down 3-1 in the third, OCU's LeeAnn Lopez hit her 16th home run of the season – a two-run shot – to tie it at three. The Stars chased SGU starter Allison Conyers in fifth after hitting another two-run homer – this one by Kyndra Holasek – to make it 5-3 OCU.

The Cavs fought back to tie it in the bottom of the inning on Melanie Gladden's RBI double down the right-field line and a wild pitch. But Drew Wright's three-RBI double one inning later sealed it for the visitors.

Gallego suffered the loss in the nightcap as well, falling to 10-4 on the season. She gave up four runs on seven hits in three innings of work. Conyers went 3-for-4 with three runs scored to lead SGU offensively.

The Cavaliers (30-9, 11-7 SAC) travel to Ann Lacy Stadium to conclude their series with OCU on Thursday. That doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
