OKLAHOMA CITY – St. Gregory's picked up its first Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of the season Saturday, defeating Mid-America Christian 1-0 and 13-6 at James Curtis Field. The Cavaliers needed a stellar performance on the mound from junior Ben Moore to win a low-scoring opener, and then found its offensive stride to take the nightcap.

Moore, the reigning conference pitcher of the week, has been nearly flawless of late. On Saturday, he pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out five Evangels along the way. Moore hasn't allowed a run since April 5 – a span of 18 innings. He now has wins in five of his last six decisions.

The Cavs were no-hit by MACU starter Brett Lamb through four innings of Game 1. That changed in the fifth when Roberto Celestino led off with an infield single. Three batters later, Brian Bartlett hit a go-ahead, RBI double into the gap in right-center.

MACU threatened in the seventh by putting the first two batters of the inning on base via singles. But Moore got outs in the next three at-bats, completing the shutout.

SGU finished the game with only those two fifth-inning hits. Jacob Ratliff saw his 13-game hitting streak come to an end after going 0-for-3.

The Cavs got it going offensively early in Game 2, scoring six runs in the first inning. Ratliff found his stride in the frame, belting an RBI double. Cody Guenthart and J.J. Egler also had run-scoring hits in the inning.

Up 6-2, SGU tacked on two more in the third via a Celestino double and an Evangel error. It was 8-4 in the fourth when the visitors put the game away. The Cavs scored four runs on three hits in the inning. The big hit came off the bat of Christian Torres, who tripled in three runs with a gapper to right-center.

Junior Luke Taylor hit his first home run of the season in fifth to cap the scoring for SGU. Ratliff (3-7) went five innings to notch his first win in his last eight decisions. He gave up two earned runs on eight hits and struck out three. Eight of the nine Cavalier starters found the hit column, led by two hits each from Ratliff and Torres.

The two teams conclude their regular-season series Sunday at Bill Nicklas Field in Shawnee. That doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
