SHAWNEE – St. Gregory's got double-figure production from both of its seniors on Senior Night, and the Cavaliers defeated Mid-America Christian 72-60 Saturday at W.P. Wood Field House. SGU used a decisive second-half run to pull away from the Lady Evangels in a game that featured nine ties and 15 lead changes.

SGU's Leticia Silva scored a team-high 19 points, and fellow senior Heather Anderson added an 11-point effort that included a 3 of 4 shooting night from three-point range.

The game had Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament seeding implications, and SGU avoided Wednesday's play-in game against USAO with the win. The Cavs will open their postseason Thursday in the conference tournament, which will be played at Oklahoma Baptist.

After shooting 31 percent in the first half, the Cavs hit at a 52 percent clip in the second half. They held the visitors to 22 percent from the floor after intermission. Junior Kalie Lucas upped her NAIA-leading block total by equaling her season high with seven swats on the night. Lucas also scored 17 points and pulled down eight boards.

The Cavs missed eight of their first 10 shots and trailed 14-7 early. The home team quickly got back in it, though, using a 9-0 run to take its first lead – 16-14 – with 10:31 to go in the half. Anderson capped that stretch with a three-pointer from the corner. The game tightened up from that point, as neither team led by more than two the rest of the period.

There were five ties and 10 lead changes in the first half alone. The Lady Evangels had a slight 29-27 advantage at the break after holding SGU to 31 percent from the floor. Lucas scored a team-high eight points in the first 20 minutes after hitting two of her three shot attempts.

The game remained close deep into the second half before the home team finally made its decisive run, beginning at the 7-minute mark. SGU hit four of its five shots over the next 3:37, scoring 12 unanswered points in that span. Anderson's three from the left wing with 3:23 to go made it 63-50, virtually icing the game.

The visitors got no closer than eight the rest of the way, as the Cavs made seven of their eight free throws down the stretch.
