SHAWNEE- St. Gregory's University alum and former assistant coach, Stephen Cummins has been named the new women's head soccer coach. Cummins attended SGU as a student-athlete from 2011-2015, and played two seasons for the men's soccer team. While playing for the Cavaliers, he scored 7 goals in 2012, and in 2013 he scored an impressive 17 goals, 6 assists, for 40 total points. Cummins was named National Player of the Week in 2013, and he also led the team to the SAC Conference Final game.
After finishing his playing career, he immediately began his coaching career with SGU in 2014, as a graduate assistant coach. For the past two years, Cummins has been the assistant coach for both, Cavalier men and women's soccer teams. Along with coaching at St. Gregory's, he coaches at the Southlakes Soccer Club.
"The reason I chose St. Gregory's, was my love for the school, and what it has done for me, over the past four years. I hope I can repay the school in the coming years for the faith that they've shown in me, by making the women's soccer program successful and taking off where Tommy Riley left. I look forward in keeping a close relationship with the men's soccer coach Andrew Rundell."
Cummins and his wife, who is also a St. Gregory's alum, reside in Yukon, Okla.
